Hope you like the new outline.
  • Abraham Lincoln Statue, DanielWilliams wrote 17 years ago:
Photo was taken when the statue was atop the Library. Note the First Congregational Church in background
  • The Shore House Cafe, desu wrote 17 years ago:
The phizantics made eating the overcooked-to-within-an-inch-of-its-life bacon more bearable. The pancakes were okay.
  • Joe Jost's, phiz wrote 17 years ago:

  • Former Acres of Books, phiz wrote 17 years ago:
I parked behind it for the LBGP this year. *Hangs head*.....I didn't bother to look on the other side of the building.
  • Dolly Varden Hotel, desu wrote 17 years ago:
That's why the sign is a historic landmark, not the hotel underneath it. I have edited out the commercial interests spin for a more NPoV.
  • Lincoln Park, phiz wrote 17 years ago:
I think they should change the name to "Eleanor" Park. Or maybe "Halicki" Park. If you know what I mean, you're probably much cooler than the average Wikinerd.
  • Dolly Varden Hotel, phiz wrote 17 years ago:
The hotel is crap but, the signage is priceless!
  • Dolly Varden Hotel, desu wrote 17 years ago:
The other links were perfectly acceptable, too.
  • Former Acres of Books, DanielWilliams wrote 17 years ago:
This is gone? One of the main reasons for ever visiting Long Beach would be this old New and Used book store full of Acres of Books
  • Dolly Varden Hotel, DanielWilliams wrote 17 years ago:
I lived here back in 1983-86 and The New Dolly Varden is looking fantastic from what I remember. Added a new link to its site and history.
  • Buffums Autoport, DanielWilliams wrote 17 years ago:
I remember there was one of those personal "Escalator/Elevator" conveyor belt things that you grab a hold of and step on to take you between the ground floor and upper levels as well as bring you back down. I don't remember what they were officially called but if I find out, I'll try to include a picture.

The above photo shows the last Douglas-heritage aircraft produced in Building 80: a Boeing 717 for AirTran. It was the 15,599th airplane built in the Long Beach Factory.
  • Long Beach Airport Main Terminal, desu wrote 17 years ago:
Unlike the rat mazes that are most airports, I love flying in and out of Long Beach. I don't ever have to run to get to my gate, it's cozy, and I can smoke while waiting for my bags since both smoking areas and baggage claims are outside. Ace!

I worked in Downtown L.B. in the mid 80's, and these two blocks were the location of the Long Beach Mall. It had more homeless people than customers and soon closed.
