I lived here back in 1983-86 and The New Dolly Varden is looking fantastic from what I remember. Added a new link to its site and history.

I remember there was one of those personal "Escalator/Elevator" conveyor belt things that you grab a hold of and step on to take you between the ground floor and upper levels as well as bring you back down. I don't remember what they were officially called but if I find out, I'll try to include a picture.

Unlike the rat mazes that are most airports, I love flying in and out of Long Beach. I don't ever have to run to get to my gate, it's cozy, and I can smoke while waiting for my bags since both smoking areas and baggage claims are outside. Ace!

I worked in Downtown L.B. in the mid 80's, and these two blocks were the location of the Long Beach Mall. It had more homeless people than customers and soon closed.
